$2 Million For Conservation & Communities

When J. Nichols and I started SEE Turtles in 2008, our mission was to support sea turtles and coastal communities through conservation travel. We wanted to do travel differently than anyone else. By putting the impact of the trips on local conservation programs and the communities that host them first, we ensure that our trips are helping sea turtles. We have now passed a total of $2 million in benefits, so we’re going to celebrate!

Through the month of October, we’re offering a discount of $100 pp for every new registration. With our unique transparent Conservation Impact Pricing, you can see how the trip price breaks down for every trip we offer. Read on to learn more about our trips & get signed up before they fill!

So how did we get to $2 million?

We began running trips in 2008, starting with Costa Rica, Baja Mexico, and Trinidad. We’ve changed up our destinations a few times over the years but Costa Rica has stayed our top place to go. SEE Turtles has organized group departures, private groups, school groups, and more to sea turtle hotspots in Latin America and Kenya.

To date, we have:

  • Brought more than 1,800 people to visit our partner projects in 14 countries

  • These travelers have completed more than 5,800 volunteer shifts

  • Our program has generated more than $1.4 million for turtle conservation, which includes payments and grants to our partners, funds allocated to SEE Turtles programs, donations made by travelers, park fees, and the in-kind value of volunteer shifts

  • Our partner communities have received more than $650,000 in income including payments to local guides, hotels, restaurants, and activities.

With our acquisition of EcoTeach, our impact will be growing faster over the next few years. We expect that our impact will grow from around $250,000 per year to more than $1 million, helping to save lots more turtles and benefit more communities.
